Rick Osterloh, Google’s head of devices and services, says that the deal is an “opportunity to invest even more in Wear OS as well as introduce Made by Google wearable devices into the market.” Which suggests that the company will, contrary to expectation, be used as Google’s wearable division. And that Fitbit’s hardware is likely to adopt Wear OS as its software platform as the two companies collaborate.

Those concerned that Google will use Fitbit’s data for ad-targeting may be reassured that Google will not “sell” your data to third parties. Although from the wording, it’s likely that your information will be used for Google’s own ad business, although you will have the same control you do with your existing Google data.
